Assembly Term 4 Week 6

The Year 3 assembly was hosted by Room 18 this week. We shared our Kadinsky Blossom trees and our research about the flag options in the upcoming referendum. At the end of this we voted for our favourite option to run against the current NZ flag next year. The clear winner amongst the year 3 children was the blue and black silver fern. I wonder if this will be the flag selected by the rest of New Zealand?

Congratulations to Ruby, Kacey and Charlotte who received certificates - keep up the great effort girls.

Poetry Competition

Congratulations to Tayla, Emily and Kacey who were selected to represent Room 18 in the Year 3 & 4 Poetry Competition. Runner-ups were Aoife and Ruby. On Thursday we were proud to hear them perform in front of an audience of Year 3 and 4 children and family members. First place went to Sophie in Room 17, second place to Rory in Room 16 and we were all excited when Tayla was awarded third place. Aoife, Charlotte, Cooper and Erin also presented the poems they wrote earlier this term. Check out the videos of our poets below.

ASB Financial Literacy

On Thursday, Amy from ASB came and talked to us about being wise with our money. Sam, Kacey and Reza got to do some shopping and we learnt that it is a good idea take the time to shop around for the best deal. Can you remember the rap we learnt about spending some and saving some? Teach someone at home.

Term 1, Week 5 Highlights

It has been another busy week in Room 18. Our writing frames are finished and showcase our great senses poems from Aquagym. Come and check them out.

On Wednesday we hosted the Year 3 assembly were we shared some of our published writing. Congratulations to Henry T, Tayla and Angel who received certificates and to Room 17 who were awarded the Heather Trophy for the tidiest cloakroom.

This week we been working on our Tagxedo art. Once we have brainstormed our words, we are teaching each other how to use this great programme. Here are some of the finished tagxedos now on display in the classroom. See if you can work out who the author/artist is from the words, colour and shapes chosen.

The News Reporters shared some special items with us on Friday. Finn brought in a remote controlled tarantula which caused quite a stir.

On Friday, Room 18 made musical instruments out of recycled 'junk'. What an amazing range of sounds you could make. Aoife, Charlotte, Jesse Kacey and Tayla formed a band and gave an impromptu performance. Click on the image to hear the music and keep an eye out for their debut album!
