Week 9 Home Learning

There is no home learning sheet this week, but you still need to be reading and practising your basic facts. Check out the Research Groups page and learn more about your native animal so you can complete your focus area fact in class tomorrow.

Orana Park Trip

Don't forget our trip to Orana Park is happening tomorrow.

Wear suitable mufti and make sure you bring a raincoat as the weather forecast isn't very flash. You will also need plenty of food in a packed lunch, and don't forget your drink bottle of water.

The bus will be leaving at 9am so make sure you are at school in plenty of time before the bell rings.

The Most Magnificent Zoo

Today we were joined by some of the children in Room 16. We read a poem called The Most Magnificent Zoo which had some very unusual animals in it . We were inspired to create our own mixed up animals - check them out in Room 18 when you get a chance. Some of them look very scary - I hope we don't find these at Orana Park on Monday!

There is also a fun online programme called SwitchZoo which has lots of interesting facts about animals and you can also make some very mixed up animals by choosing different bodies, heads, legs and tails. Click on the picture below to try it out for yourself or download the app.

Relaxed Reading

What a lovely sunny day we all enjoyed this afternoon. Here are a few pictures of the Pukeko Reading Group enjoying their reading in the butterfly garden.

Guest Speaker - Andrew Oswin

This morning we were privileged to listen to Andrew Oswin talk about his experiences at the Special Olympics in Athens. He showed us the medals he won for shot put and for the 4 x 100m relay. SOme pointers we picked up from Andrew were

  • set goals
  • work hard towards your goals
  • don't give up trying - even when your opponents are much taller than you
  • be proud of what you achieve
Thank you Andrew - you truly are an inspiration to others.
